Shellfish allergy

Shellfish allergy is an allergic reaction caused by eating shellfish. Symptoms usually occur within several minutes after eating shellfish. Symptoms include hives, skin rash, lips, face, tongue or throat swelling, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, asthma, nasal congestion or difficulty breathing, dizziness or fainting. Some people can have severe reaction even eating a small amount of shellfish. Shellfish allergy can be life-threatening and it is a medical emergency. Critically ill patients may need an emergent injection of epinephrine.
