Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome

Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome is a chronic, benign rectal disease. It is more common in adults. The disease is characterized by bloody stool, mucus in stool, bowel movement difficulties and anal pain. Once ulcer is formed, it is very difficult to heal. The ulcer may last for years or even decades. Patients should be eating a high-fiber diet and keep bowel movement smooth. Use laxative when you have bowel movement difficulties. If there is secondary infection, use anti-inflammatory drugs or antibiotics. If medication treatment fails and the condition is severe, the part of rectum can be removed. However, it may recur later.
