A sprained ankle is caused by ankle joint turns excessively. Common symptoms include swollen ankle, ankle pain which intensifies during activity, bruising under the skin, and restricted range of motion. For mild cases, symptoms can be alleviated by ice or raising the foot. If symptoms are severe, or there is ligament or bone rupture, it should be fixed by plaster after the positions are restored. If restoration is not good, the ankle should be cut open for restoration or use internal fixation.
