Squamous cell carcinoma

Squamous cell carcinoma often develops from keratosis, leukoplakia or other precancerous diseases. It grows very fast and ulcers form during the early stage. Some are nodular or cauliflower-like and the base is movable and do not grow deeply. Some are butterfly-shaped and grow deeply; they are often destructive and often invade the bones. Squamous cell carcinoma is often accompanied by purulent infection, which has bad odor and pain. Squamous cell carcinoma originating from cells at the boundary of skin and mucous membrane has fastest growth speed. If it originates from mucous membrane, it easily spreads. Complete surgical removal is the key method of treatment, combined with full neck lymph node removal. Radiation therapy or chemotherapy will be used after surgery.
