Stress fractures are bone fracture caused by excessive stress. It often occurs in the weight-bearing bones (mainly legs and feet). Early symptoms of stress fractures may not be obvious. Appropriate self-care and treatment can prevent it from further deterioration. Treatment of stress fracture includes partial rest, not bearing weight, and plaster cast fixation. If the bones do not heal well, it may cause chronic pain. Surgery may be needed for severe cases. During the surgery, iron pins may be implanted to fix the bones. Full recovery may take up to 6 months.
