Tendinitis

Inflammation of the tendon or tendon sheath is called tendinitis. Tendinitis is most common in tendons in shoulder, elbow, wrist and heel. Symptoms include pain, redness, and swelling. You may also feel joint stiffness, especially after getting up in the morning. Most tendinitis can heal in about two weeks, but the symptoms may last for several months or even years. Excessive use of tendon is the most common cause of tendinitis. Conventional treatment is to avoid sports causing such injuries and let it heal on its own. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen can help ease pain but do not speed up healing. If there is tendon ruptures, surgery is often needed.
