Testicular torsion

Testicular torsion means a testicle is twisted. It can occur at any age but most often it affects young people. The onset is abrupt. Main symptoms are pain and swelling. At the beginning pain is limited inside scrotum, and then it will spread to lower abdomen and groin area. It is often accompanied by vomiting, nausea, fever, genital redness and tenderness. Testicular torsion usually requires emergency surgery. If treatment is carried out within a few hours after onset, the affected testicle can usually be saved. Otherwise, the testicle may be damaged permanently.
