Tetanus

Tetanus is a serious infection when an open wound is infected by Clostridium tetani bacteria. This disease has a high mortality rate. The bacteria may enter the body when skin or mucous membranes is broken. You can even acquire tetanus when pricked by a wood or steel pin. It can also enter the body of a newborn when umbilical cord is cut. Tetanus is a big threat for newborn health. Patients have strong continuous or paroxysmal muscle spasm. Severe cases can have throat muscle spasm and suffocation. During treatment, patient should be put in a quiet and warm environment. Avoid light or other stimulation. Antispasmodic agent can be injected when necessary. Tetanus can be effectively prevented by vaccination.
