Thumb arthritis is arthritis of the thumb joint. Symtoms include pain at the thumb base, swelling, stiffness, tendernes, decreased strength and decreased range of motion. In chronic thumb arthritis patients, the joint at the thumb base may appear enlarged or bony. Treatment include splint, pain relivers, long-acting corticosteroid injections or surgery.
