Tonsillitis

Tonsils are located on both sides of the rear pharynx. If they are infected by virus or bacteria, they will become swollen and painful, it is known as tonsillitis. It is a common childhood disease. Main symptoms include throat discomfort, sore throat, sensation of foreign body in throat and dry itchy throat. It often causes irritating cough and bad breath too. The majority of tonsillitis is caused by viral infection. It will heal itself after self-care. Occasionally tonsillitis is caused by bacterial infection, and then you need antibiotic treatment. If treatment fails, removal of tonsils is an option.
