Tooth abscess

A tooth abscess is an abscess in tissue surrounding tooth root. Bacteria can invade on tooth decay, pulp death or severe gum atrophy. Bacteria cause tooth abscess and affect tissues surrounding tooth root. Symptoms include persistent or intermittent pain in the affected area. When abscess diffuses, it may cause face swelling and lymph node swelling and tenderness on the affected side of face. You may also have fever and headache. Tooth abscess may also affect nearby bones. Tooth abscess may even cause sepsis. For mild cases, anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers can be used to relieve pain and prevent abscess proliferation. After inflammation is controlled, seriously infected tooth should be extracted. Severe abscess should be cut open for drainage.
