Trench mouth

Trench mouth is a serious acute necrotizing gingivitis which causes gum pain and bleeding. The onset is acute. You have gum pain, spontaneous bleeding, special bad odor in mouth, and necrosis of the papillae and gingival edge. Severe trench mouth can cause severe face tissue death and has a high mortality rate. For treatment, during the acute phase, first gently remove the necrotic tissue and scrape of big chunk of tartar. Then rinse and repeatedly gargle with oxidants such as 1% to 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. Orally take Vitamin C. Severe cases should orally take metronidazole (Flagyl).
