Hernia protruding through navel ring is called umbilical hernia. It can affect infants or adults. Infant umbilical hernia is more common than adult umbilical hernia. As infant develops fast, umbilical hernia can usually heal itself when abdominal wall muscles become strong enough when they are 2 years old. If it still exists after 2 years old, surgery can be done. If an adult has umbilical hernia, early surgery is recommended. If intestine is stuck, surgery should be done urgently.
