Uveitis is inflammation of the middle part of the eye. Symptoms include eye redness, eye pain, blurred vision, sensitive to light and seeing floaters in vision. It can be caused by infection, injury, or an autoimmune or inflammatory disease. If not treated properly, uveitis can result in permanent vison loss. Treatment include corticosteroid eyedrops, antibiotics and antiviral drugs. Severe cases need immunosuppresive or cytotoxic drugs. Surgery to remove part of the vitreous or implanting a sustained release device containing corticosteroid into the eye may be an option for some patients.
