Vaginal atrophy

Vaginal atrophy refers to thinning, drying and inflammation of the vaginal walls. It is caused by low level of estrogen in the body. Vaginal atrophy occurs most often after menopause. Symptoms include vaginal dryness, burning sensation, vaginal discharge and painful intercourse. You may also experience other symptoms associated with menopause. Treatment includes vaginal moisturizer, water-based vaginal lubricant, vaginal estrogen, or oral estrogen.
