Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a common skin depigmentation disease. It often affects back, wrist, forearm, face, neck and genitals. The main symptom is irregular shape of light-colored or white patch on skin. Vitiligo is not contagious, and patients have no discomfort or malfunction. The cause of vitiligo is unclear. Currently there is no cure for vitiligo. Treatment includes steroid hormones, ultraviolet radiation, and surgery. Narrow-band ultraviolet-B radiation can make the boundary between lesion and normal skin less obvious. Currently the most promising treatment method, which is still in experimental stage, is transplanting skin melanin cells.
