Von Willebrand disease

Von Willebrand disease is a genetic disease. The main symptom is bleeding tendency such as nose bleeding, gum bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, and severe bleeding after tooth extraction or surgery. Adult female patients have heavy periods. They also have heavy postpartum bleeding if they deliver a baby. It often occurs in childhood. The bleeding problems gradually get better as you grow up. Severe bleeding can be life threatening. Because Von Willebrand disease is a genetic disease, it can only be cured by gene therapy. Currently treatment aims at preventing bleeding and relieving symptoms.
