Vulvar cancer

Vulvar cancer is cancer in vulva area. The vast majority of vulvar cancer is squamous cell carcinoma. Adenocarcinoma is rare. Vulva cancer can also be basal cell carcinoma or malignant melanoma. The main symptoms are nodules and lumps in vulva area, often accompanied by a history of pain or itching. Some patients have chronic genital ulcers which is difficult to heal. At late stage, patients may also have purulent or bloody discharge and painful urination. Vulvar cancer rarely invades deep tissue. Surgical excision is the preferred method of treatment. If surgery is not possible, radiation therapy has some effect too.
