Wheat allergy is the conditon that a person is allergic to wheat products, such as flour, bread, pasta etc. The symptoms are similar to the allergy symptoms, including swelling, itching and irritation of the mouth or in the throat, hives on skin, nasal congestion, watery eyes, and abdominal cramping. Severe wheat allergy can cause life-threatening allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. Wheat allergy can be treated using antihistamines and epinephrine (EpiPen, Auvi-Q, others). If there is anaphylactic reason to wheat, emergency medical care is essential, even after receiving epinephrine.
